2010-2011 ADVANCED STUDIES SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS

The Jefferson Parish Public School System will begin accepting applications from parents of high achieving students to its Academies of Advanced Studies from October 12 to November 13 at the system’s temporary administration building located on the westbank.

Completed applications with all documentation attached will be accepted from Monday, October 12, 2009 through Friday, November 13, 2009, at 501 Manhattan Blvd., between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Applications with supporting documentation must be hand delivered by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 to be assured first-round admission consideration.

Applications submitted without required report cards and test scores will not be considered.

Applicants for all schools must demonstrate proficiency in academics, acceptable behavior, and consistent attendance.

Please note that admission is based on the ranking on a rubric (see FAQ ) and (see Application ) and not the order in which the application is received prior to the deadline.

Parents may only submit one application per student. A choice of school is to be noted on the application. In the event that space is not available in your school of choice, you may write your second or third choice schools.

Once an application has been received, qualified students will be tested at the school of choice selected on the application. All students who qualify for admissions will be tested which is scheduled to begin in late October 2009.

Parents of qualified applicants will receive a phone call from the school to make an appointment for a testing date and time upon receipt of a completed application, applicable test scores, and report cards.

If your child is accepted, parents will receive a provisional admissions / decision letter, scheduled to be mailed the week of March 1, 2010, which will include the date, time, and location of registration. Failure to return this letter committing to attendance at this school, and/or failure to attend the registration process at the school site will result in your child losing his/her provisional place at the school.

Academies of Advanced Studies in the Jefferson Parish Public School System are designed to educate students who are intellectually and personally capable of thriving in a rigorous, academically advanced, and challenging setting.
